Missing!
Living in Eugene, Oregon. Hello, I'm Lauri Howes & I'm
Jamie Howes Kenworthy, and we are real estate agents with (Keller Williams
Realty)
We have moved to United Real Estate Properties...... And today we're going on tour #5 the
College Hill neighborhood. College Hill is technically part of the Friendly
Street neighborhood, but it's so unique we decided to give it it’s own YouTube
time.
College Hill, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Eugene, was
named for the Columbia College that was erected on the hill in 1855, the first
college in Eugene. The college opened in November of 1856 and sadly burnt to
the ground a month later, arson was suspected. During that time, 52 students
attended the college. In November of 1857, a new building was completed and 150
students attended were in attendance. But tragedy struck again, and the school
burned in February of 1858 and never rebuilt. Eighteen years later, in 1876, a
new college opened south east of the Columbia College site and still stands
today, The University of Oregon.
In the late 1800s the Hill was advertised as
the *Nob Hill of Eugene* and a new residential neighborhood was born. The
neighborhood grew through 1925. Primarily bungalows and revival style
architecture dotted the top of the hill. After World War II, with a growing
population, working class homes were built around the base of the hill.
Here's what the neighbors are saying about the College Hill
neighborhood. 93% of the neighbors agree there's plenty of parking, 91% say
it's a dog friendly neighborhood, 88% agree that there's a lot of holiday
spirit in the neighborhood, 87% say it's walkable to grocery stores and
restaurants, 86% say homes and yards are very well-kept and 86% agree that there
are sidewalks and it's safe to be outside at night. There's very little crime
in the Friendly & College Hill neighborhoods.

Parks and Recreation. Washington Park is in the College
Hill neighborhood. It provides a basketball court, performing arts space,
picnic tables, a play area, recreation center, restrooms, soccer fields, tennis
courts and water spigots. There's also the Fern Ridge trail, which is an out
and back trail, which features all skill levels. It's dog friendly, but your
dogs must remain on a leash.
Shopping and
restaurants. There are a couple of unique grocery stores in the
neighborhood. First is Market of Choice, a unique grocery shopping experience
with a bakery that serves up tasty delights and extensive beer and wine
section. If you can't find what you're looking for at a standard grocery, then
be sure to check out Market of Choice. And second is the Sunrise Asian Food Market
serving up exotic spices and seasonings from around the world and so much more.
It's definitely worth visiting. And our two favorite restaurants in the College
Hill neighborhood are Turtle's Bar and Grill and Chapala’s Mexican food
restaurant.
